Welcome to the Potsdam Teacher Center

The Potsdam Teaching Center is one of more than 130 Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers created in 1984 by the New York State Legislature and funded through the New York State Education Department.

Teacher Centers provide educators with the sites and resources for systematic, ongoing professional development. The Potsdam Teacher Center works collaboratively with educators of the Potsdam Central School District, parents, local businesses, community members and higher education to enhance professional growth.

The purpose of the Potsdam Teacher Center is to maximize the impact of local professional development efforts while building the capacity to implement reform by providing tailored ongoing support for the instructional staff of the Potsdam Central School District.  Professional development will be focused on the areas of expertise and needs within the Potsdam School District, Pre-K through grade 12. At the Potsdam Teachers' Center, innovative approaches to teaching are shared, current educational issues are studied, and research about educational practices are disseminated. Providing a forum to share ideas and serving as a bank for resources guide the operation of the center.

The Potsdam Teacher Center provides professional development activities that promote excellence in education. In-district professional development offerings are listed in the District Catalog by logging into your MyLearningPlan.com account.  The district catalog contains staff requested professional development.

Research indicates that the number one indicator of student achievement is teacher quality.  While teachers at Potsdam Central School have found the regional and state-wide  professional development offerings beneficial to their work with students, more follow-through support at the local level is needed to foster sustained, systematic change over a period of time and is primarily done so by providing the following:

        •  Follow-through professional development to sustain district and/or building specific requests many of which will be in the form of professional learning communities
        • Supplemental supplies and materials needed to foster implementation at a local level.  Purchase of such items will not supplant what the district should and is already providing but rather will support follow-through implementation. Supplies and materials to supplement innovative classroom project and curriculum ideas will also be purchased.
