From the Principal Dear Lawrence Avenue Parents and Families, Welcome to Lawrence Avenue Elementary School. You and your child are fortunate to be a part of an excellent school system. We have a very experienced teaching staff and high expectations for our students. As a result, our students consistently perform above the state average in all formally assessed academic areas. At Lawrence Avenue, during the 2011-12 school year, we have four Pre-Kindergarten classes, two in the morning, and two in the afternoon, for a total of about 70 students. The rest of our building spans Kindergarten through Grade 4. We have approximately 500 students, with four, five, or six teachers at each grade level. We also have three BOCES classrooms that serve students with special needs and classrooms for students with autism. We believe that all students are capable of learning and being successful in school. We pride ourselves on our ability to reach all students, and we offer many forms of support for those students who struggle. We also do our best to offer enrichment for those students who benefit from challenges beyond the regular curriculum. We sponsor an Odyssey of the Mind Program, Band and Orchestra, Chorus, Yearbook Club, Lego Robotics, Junior First Lego League, and Math Enrichment for grades 1-4. We also believe that teaching children to behave in a way that is safe, respectful, and responsible is critical. Our Student Code of Conduct is directly related to our school-wide "Bucketfilling" Character Education Program. We also believe that, in order for us to be successful, we need to work very closely with parents and families. We welcome parents in our building, whether as PTSA members, classroom volunteers, or just as visitors. We encourage parents to come and eat lunch with their children as well as to attend the many special concerts and events we offer. We want parents to feel as though they can always send an email, write a note, or pick up the phone, and they will get a prompt and courteous response from teachers, office staff, or the principal. We want to know what is on your mind and what we can do to make your child's experience at Lawrence Avenue better. Welcome to the new school year. We are looking forward to working with you and your children. Sincerely, Larry Jenne Elementary Principal Larry B. Jenne Principal Lawrence Avenue Elementary |
