Welcome to A. A. Kingston Middle School!
Middle schools face the unique mission and challenge of transitioning students from elementary school to the secondary experience. During the middle level years, students go through physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes. Understanding these changes and the difficulties that adolescents face and developing support structures, processes, and responses which attend to these developmental needs form the foundation of our educational philosophy.
At A. A. Kingston, we view curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student growth as part of one continuum; all of these components are interconnected and drive each other. Therefore, it is essential that students are actively engaged and challenged through authentic, rigorous, relevant, and integrated activities which promote critical thinking and decision-making skills. We utilize a variety of instructional and learning strategies so that student learning styles are met. We purposely incorporate informal and formal assessments and continually monitor understanding during instruction so that progress can be measured on a daily and on-going basis to help students master concepts and skills.
At A. A. Kingston, we hold collaboration as a central tenet. We believe that parents, teachers, guidance counselors, support staff, administrators, and the community must work together to create support structures which address the diverse and individual needs of our students.
As a result of our commitment to academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and a student-centered organizational structure, A. A. Kingston Middle School has been recognized twice by the New York State Essential Elements: Schools-to-Watch Program as a Model School.
Our students experience an incredible amount of growth and have many opportunities for great accomplishments and success throughout their years at A. A. K. We are proud to be part of your child’s educational journey and look forward to collaborating with you!
